Jesus Christ!

The “Resurrection Story” as it were, revolves around the resurrection of the Christian religion’s namesake, Jesus Christ, being restored to life after his death. There are several apocryphal, and Biblical variations on the Christian resurrection story, dependent mainly on the version of the Bible, the chapter of the Bible, and of course, the particular church of Christianity that you are partial to. So if you haven’t seen Passion of the Christ, and if you haven’t been to any Easter services in a while, I’m going to relay over the short version. While trying really hard not to be stoic or skeptical.

Jesus was executed, most thoroughly, for claiming that he was the true son of God. He was made to carry his own cross through the streets while people threw rocks and rotten fruit at him, and then when he made it to the hill, was hammer to the cross. This is actually debated somewhat, –one nail in each palm secured his hands to the arms of the cross, and then one nail was used to secure both of his feet. In some versions, it was two nails, or the nail was placed in his ankles, or in another area of the foot where it was impossible to hold himself up. Either way, his feet were secured, and a crown made of thorns was pressed down hard on his head so that the blood ran down into his eyes.

It was in this fashion that God sacrificed his “only begotten son” so that the sins of humanity could be forgiven. When the soldier, whose job it was to make sure that all the thieves on the hill were finally dead, came at last to Jesus, he saw that he was already dead. But he stabbed him with his spear anyway. Jesus was taken down, and sealed into a burial tomb. Three days later, he was resurrected, and back among his apostles, who were amazed, and couldn’t believe it. So Jesus showed them the scars on his hands from the nails, and the apostles believed him.
